A historical commercial roofing project
Completed in November 2023 under the trading name Premier Reinstatements (UK), before the limited company was incorporated.
At a KFC restaurant in Morecambe, Lancashire, an old roof-mounted extractor had become a recurring source of leaks. The client already knew which installation was causing the problem and instructed its removal, with the opening to be roofed over.
The scope was therefore clear from the outset: remove the troublesome extractor and reinstate the roof where it had been installed. The photographs record the existing installation, its removal and the completed slate covering.
The existing extractor housing
A heavy unit in a difficult position
The extractor weighed nearly 100 kg. Its weight, size and roof position made getting it off the premises a substantial part of the job. This was more involved than removing a small domestic ventilation fitting.
The team took on the removal and completed the work, dealing with the practical challenge of moving the heavy unit safely away from the building. The photograph of the assembly partly removed shows the scale of the installation and the opening behind it.
Removing the heavy extractor
From extractor opening to reinstated roof
Removing the extractor left an opening within the pitched slate roof. The surrounding area was opened up as part of the work, giving access to the former installation and the roof around it.
The roof was then reinstated over the opening, completing the client’s instruction to remove the extractor and roof over its former position. The finished photograph shows the replacement slate covering within the surrounding roof.

The completed repair
The old extractor was removed from the premises and its former roof opening covered with slates. The finished area follows the surrounding roof, with the bulky installation no longer projecting from it.
